Odisha is prone to calamities, especially major cyclones, floods, etc. the people lose their livelihood, shelter, and basic provisions year after year. Being affected by one disaster and while working towards the revival of the situation, they get hit by another catastrophe. The basic provisions of food, clothing, and shelter become a dire need for lakhs of people. Major floods, super cyclones in 1999, Cyclone FANI in 2019, etc. are some of the severest catastrophes that have caused long-term damages. The economic impact of the recent Covid-19 pandemic situation is severe and people are bearing the burnt.

Concerning Emergency relief, SCT is driven by SDG 1 & 2 which aims at ‘no poverty and ‘zero hunger’. In alignment with these above objectives, SCT is planning to work towards providing basic food, clothing, and necessary items for the sustenance of vulnerable people. The books, notebooks, study materials, uniforms and play materials etc. are to be provided to the affected children. Dry ration kits, clothes and housing materials are to be provided to the people who have lost their basic needs. Old persons, women, children, destitute, weak, differently-abled and other vulnerable sections of society will be given priority. SCT aims to provide some financial and other assistance to severely affected families. Along with people, animals also get affected severely. Accordingly, SCT also looking for promoting and working towards animal welfare activities during disaster periods and supports the institutions working on this. Along with this, SCT plan to take initiatives on creating awareness of disaster preparedness and rescue operation. The students, youth and all other stakeholders in its concerned associate institutions are to be trained through mock drills and preparedness programs. SCT will assist the government and non-government institutions and agencies in the event of cyclones, floods, earthquakes, droughts and other natural calamities.
